The Manager, Design & Construction (North Maple Regional Park) is responsible for managing, providing leadership and direction to staff while championing change with a special focus on advancing the 900-acre vision for North Maple Regional Park. The park vision is to establish NMRP as a legacy project and destination site for Vaughan residents and visitors. Planning and delivery of the park vision will take place in major phases over the coming years. Engagement is ongoing with sport, culture, and community organizations to determine the facilities, partnerships, programs, and events to be included in future phases of park development.

Qualifications and experience:

  • University Degree in Civil Engineering, Landscape Architecture, Architecture or suitable equivalent.
  • Minimum of seven (7) years of progressive experience in the design and construction of municipal infrastructure projects including progressive management experience of at least five (5) years, preferably in a municipal, unionized environment.
  • Extensive knowledge of the principles of municipal capital development, civil engineering, materials and methods of construction, and considerable knowledge of other branches of engineering.
  • Knowledge of financial reporting processes, including budget preparation, budget controls, and expenditures forecasting. Experience in preparation and interpretation of financial reports as well as reporting on key performance indicators.
  • Demonstrated leadership ability to coordinate, plan, supervise and direct work of others.
  • Experience in application of computer programs and working knowledge of AutoCAD and other design-related software, infrastructure, and relational database systems including experience with a variety of desktop languages and mapping/GIS presentation. Highly proficient in computer literacy utilizing MS Office software applications.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of the Construction Lien Act, the Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA), Environmental Assessment Act, Ontario Building Code, Employment Standards Act, and other relative legislation.
  • Knowledge of collective agreement administration and labour relations principles and practices.
  • Demonstrated results/achievement and focus in, human resources management, leadership financial management, business planning, decision making/judgement, representation and professionalism, and job knowledge.
  • Knowledge of and demonstrated ability in the City’s core competencies and relevant functional competencies.
  • Proven abilities in customer service, with demonstrated teamwork, initiative/self-management, accountability, flexibility and adaptability.
  • Strong effective report writing and project management skills, with capability to achieve program objectives successfully while working towards tight deadlines.
  • Ability to conduct oneself in a manner bestowing tact and diplomacy in a political environment.
  • Highly developed interpersonal and communication skills (oral and written), with the ability to effectively communicate at levels of the organization; coupled with extremely effective negotiation, facilitation and conflict resolution skill.
  • Possess a valid Ontario Class “G” Driver’s License in good standing with a reliable vehicle for business purposes.
