Parks Project Architect (contract)

Reporting to the Manager of Parks & Forestry, the Parks Project Architect (contract) is responsible for the

  • Preparing contracts, monitoring contractor performance, and ensuring compliance to contracts.
  • Preparing or overseeing preparation of preliminary and final designs and alternatives for the construction of municipal parks projects.
  • Directing, overseeing, and coordinating consultants working for the Township with these activities.
  • Executing the planning and design process with all legislative requirements and approvals.
  • Issuing contract tenders, requests for proposal or requests for quotations; reviewing proposals, and, in conjunction with the Manager/Director, awarding contracts.
  • Conceptualizing and preparing reports to Council and provides recommendations and solutions.
  • Responsible for the contract administration and the coordination of Parks Capital Project Management files.

The successful applicant will possess:

  • Community College Diploma in Park and Landscape design or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum of five (5) years in a park development role, including minimum of three (3) years of supervision and project administration experience.
  • Previous experience in a landscape architect role would be considered an asset.
  • Working knowledge of the Occupational Health & Safety Act, provincial statutes and other regulations that are in accordance with job responsibilities is required.
  • A valid class G driver’s licence is required and access to a reliable vehicle to use on corporate business.
  • Understanding of technical terminology and the Ontario Planning Act is necessary.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills required, along with good organizational skills.

Contract Duration: up to 18 months
Hourly Range: $43.66 – 53.27 (35 hours weekly)
