Sustainability Co-ordinator

Infrastructure Services Department, Environment Division
(Full-time position, 35 hours per week)


The Town of Orangeville has a full-time opportunity available for the position of Sustainability Co-ordinator. The Sustainability Co-ordinator will focus on implementing municipal climate change priorities, with the responsibility for the development and implementation of the Town’s climate adaptation plan and other projects that enhance sustainability such as enhancing the Town’s urban forest and providing advice with respect to greening the Town’s fleet.

Job Duties:

  • Establishing and chairing a Climate Action Team with stakeholders and consultants of implementing a climate adaptation plan with assistance from the Manager, educating municipal employees and Council on climate change issues; identifying actions and projects that could reduce the Town’s environmental footprint; developing an action plan including measurement and monitoring protocols, preparing reports for Council, implementing the measurement and monitoring protocols.
  • Researching, developing, and promoting municipal operational and institutional changes to help address climate change impacts to the municipality; monitoring the progress of projects and programs throughout the municipality; leading the Town’s urban forestry program.
  • Reviewing best practices in other municipalities to implement climate adaptation initiatives and public education programs; developing technical plans that could reduce impacts of municipal practices and projects.
  • Ensuring the municipality completes a self-assessment of the municipality’s performance and progress using the Climate Adaptation Maturity Scale during the grant period.
  • Other duties as assigned.


  • College Diploma in Civil Engineering, Environmental Sciences or related discipline.
  • Minimum three (3) years of related experience in the environmental field and/or asset management with previous experience leading or working with cohesive teams on program implementation.
  • Demonstrated understanding of climate change issues, asset management and sustainable development within the context of municipal government; strong research and analytical skills including the ability to conduct rigorous research, summarize findings, and present recommendation.
  • Excellent communication and documentation skills; computer skills including Microsoft Office and other databases.

Salary Range: $68,741.40 to $80,389.40, Band 9 on the Town’s 2021 Pay Grid, plus a comprehensive benefits package.
