Our Communications Department is looking for a dedicated Graphic Designer to join the team.
Position Responsibilities
The Graphic Designer's main function is to serve as a corporate resource and authority for internal/external graphic design and printing related projects. The position will ensure a consistent, professional level of quality in visual communications across the organization as part of managing the City’s brand.
Areas of responsibility include:
- Developing visual communications assets for use in print and digital mediums.
- Facilitating, coordinating and advising on design projects.
- Contributing to department projects and initiatives.
- Staff training and support on technical support, brand guidelines and visual communications.
Main tasks include:
- Managing and coordinating graphic design projects.
- Coordinating and developing visual collateral from concept through to print.
- Developing digital assets for websites, social media, videos, through image editing and illustration.
- Creating charts, graphs, presentation slides, and infographics from data provided.
- Managing multiple projects at any given time, adjusting to changing priorities.
- Making document and design revisions based on client feedback and guidelines.
- Facilitating interactions between City departments and external design firms and contractors.
- Exercising quality control to manage City brand.
- Researching and reporting on assigned topics.
- Working collaboratively with the team to achieve project goals.
- Providing technical support to staff for online design tools.
- Be familiar with, and champion regulations, guidelines and policies related to visual communications.
- Development of training resources in various formats.
Qualifications
- An undergraduate degree or diploma in a related field of study, such as visual communications or graphic design from a recognized post-secondary institution.
- A minimum of four (4) years’ recent experience as a graphic designer.
- At least two (2) years of experience working in a professional environment.
- Fluency with Adobe`s Creative Suite and Microsoft Office products (Word, PowerPoint).
- A high level of computer competency.
- A talent for digital illustration.
- Tactful client management skills. Ability to set and manage expectations.
- Project management and meeting facilitation skills.
- Strong troubleshooting and issue resolution skills.
- A high level of independence and time management skills.
- A thorough understanding of the design process and the time/cost involved.
- Interpersonal skills and the ability to work as part of a team.
- Strong independent researching and problem solving skills.
- A strong eye for good design and appropriate typography.
- Familiarity with Canadian copyright laws and restrictions.
- Understanding of HTML, CSS and the website development process.
- Understanding of photography, videography and the equipment involved.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills (English).
- Strong organization and self-management skills.
- The ability to learn new technologies and find solutions quickly and independently.
Hours
The standard workweek consists of an average of 35 hours, with the specific schedule being determined by the immediate supervisor.
Compensation
Salary range of $37.02 to $47.86 per hour as per the Out-of-Scope Agreement.
